FAQ’s

Why are you so interested in woowoo religious stuff?

Well, there’s a long story behind that, and if you read my blog, you’ll find out the answer.

I’m no theologian and I don’t have a degree from seminary. But I was a literature and history teacher, which included medieval history. I had the opportunity during this time to read many early Church history books, which shaped my understanding of how we got where we are today. I encourage all Christians to open the history books and study the truth of your faith for yourself! You might be surprised at what you find.

I don’t have all the answers to questions about my faith, and I won’t ever, but I’m willing to talk about what I do know and to share my views in an effort to make others feel less alone in their fears and doubts.

Why do you talk so much about the South, sobriety, and sunscreen?

I'm an Alabama-born, Louisiana-lived, Mississippi-raised-and-settled gal. I come from a Mississippi Delta father whose Italian ancestors didn't arrive on American soil until the 20th century and a mother who isn't even Southern. She was an Airforce brat who moved to the Gulf Coast at twelve. So, while the South runs through my veins like the Mighty Mississippi, I like to think of myself as Southern(ish) or Southern without the Belle.

In 2022, I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on my nose. I haven’t fully written about this journey yet, but I will. It happened in the mother of all seasons, when, in one year, I lost a part of my family and a part of my faith. (Guess it was only natural to lose a part of my face, too!) For the next almost four years, I practiced tee-total sobriety, but I think of it as a journey, not a destination. I may be sober again one day, but for now, I enjoy a beverage now and then. 😉

What in the world made you decide to open--then close--a snow cone trailer?

I have a whole book about that and guess what?! You can get it right here. Not only does it tell my story, but I promise you, if you're facing big life decisions, the questions I ask will help you move forward.

Check it out!

Why don't you love to travel around a state like Mississippi?

The shortest answer for this is because I love to travel, and I love history. The longer answer is that the older I get, the more I want to make a conscious effort to return to something I think was better. Not the parts of the past that I'm ashamed of--not by a long shot--but the parts that were good for all of us, or, at the very least, had the potential to become good for all of us, once we changed our minds.

America has progressed in ways a moderately liberal gal like me is proud of. However, it's regressed in a lot of ways, too. We used to have thriving main streets. They had unique shops full well-crafted items. They were run by the people you knew from church, from school, from the local VA Hall or bingo night. I'm a firm believer that when we lost Main Street, we lost our soul. I want to be a small part of bringing that back.

On a side note, I'm also not really writing Southern fiction at this time. There was a time when I needed to write to soothe something inside of me that was missing. I've healed that part of me, and I haven't really wanted to write much since then.

You must think you’re some kind of expert or influencer.

I don't even like social media! I'm just a woman who is growing older, waking up, and realizing every year that I know LESS than I did before but just enough to help someone else. I'm a gal who got eaten up with the reading and writing bug at an early age and loves to put my thoughts onto "paper."

My ultimate purpose in life is for women like me to feel less alone and more valued.

Join me as I travel the road that leads to the back nine of life: writing, opening a business, getting healthy, staying sober(ish), enjoying marriage and my four gifts, along with a plethora of animals.

It's not the destination that keeps our feet on the path; it’s the beauty of discovering ourselves along the way.
